MANAGEMENT SUPPORT NUTRITION AND
FOOD SERVICES
Nutrition
The following guidelines shall be in effect:
- Foods served in the cafeteria area before the end of
the last lunch period shall contain, for each 100-calorie serving,
at least 5% of the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowance for at least
1 of 8 specified nutrients. Such a provision specifically
precludes the sale of carbonated beverages, water ices unless made
with fruit juice, chewing gum, candies, fondant, spun candy and
candy-coated popcorn.
- Food sales in the cafeteria area may be conducted providing
such sales do not occur during breakfast and lunch periods. Sales
should be limited to those foods that make a nutritional
contribution, such as corn chips, beef jerky, popcorn, fruit,
cheese & crackers, juices, peanuts, sunflower seeds, ice
cream, granola bars, yogurt, pretzels, fruit leather, trail mix,
etc.
- Apple machines are acceptable at all times.
- Food that is sold must meet the health department's standards
in regard to storage, preparation and serving.
