Sixth Graders Participate in World’s Fair |
The annual sixth grade World’s Fair will be held on June 5. Sixth grade classrooms will be filled with the sights, sounds and smells of exotic locations from around the world. Students have been working in groups to create a booth that contains a small piece of the country they have been researching throughout the third quarter. Students will be wearing the local dress, handing out food samples, playing games, and greeting visitors in the language of their country.
The World’s Fair is a culminating project of an in-depth study of each group’s country. Students labor to become “experts” on one country through research and report writing. The research process includes writing letters to foreign embassies, talking to people who have traveled or lived in other countries, and traditional research methods.
The sixth grade students would like to invite everyone to attend the World’s Fair. They would also like to extend a special invitation to Arcadia students to attend the fair. The World's Fair will be open during the hours of 10:30-11:30am and 12:30-2:00pm. Please stop by and visit the 'whole world' in one day.

Message from Principal Brent Seedall |
Parental Support and Effort is Appreciated
The staff and I would like to “thank you” for your support and efforts as we work together to provide the best learning environment possible for your sons and daughters. We know the heavy responsibility that comes with providing students with the tools they need to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We also know that we can’t do it alone.
Research says that one of the best things a parent can do is to spend “quality time” with their kids. Take some time this summer and really get to know your middle schooler. They change so quickly and grow up so fast! Here are some ideas to spend some “quality time” with you son or daughter: go for a walk or a bike ride, wash the car, go to a movie, take them to a ball game, take them shopping to buy some new clothes or a new CD, or take them to the lake. The list of things to do goes on and on.
Have a wonderful summer and once again “thank you” for being a great parent and a positive example for your kids. This makes our job so much easier!

Eighth Grade Recognition Ceremony and Dance Will Be Held on June 11 in the Gym |
Parents, friends and relatives of eighth graders are invited to attend a recognition ceremony on Thursday, June 11 from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm in the gym. Parents are encouraged to come early due to limited seating. No reserved seating for families is available.
Following the ceremony, there will be a dance for eighth graders from 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm. Eighth grade students and their parents are welcome and encouraged to stay for the dance. Students leaving the dance will not be allowed back into the school.
This is not a formal evening affair; it is casual dress. Parents are encouraged not to spend a lot of money on clothes. “We don’t want parents to feel pressure to buy expensive clothes for their child,” says Principal Brent Seedall.
Prom dresses and tuxedos are not appropriate and the school dress code will be applicable for this evening. Girls should not wear dresses that have spaghetti straps, strapless, bare shoulder or bare back, form-fitting or low-cut outfits; hats or gloves; jeans or shorts. Boys should not wear suits, tuxedos or jackets, shorts, T-Shirts, worn jeans, or dirty or worn tennis shoes.
Parents or guardians with questions or concerns about the eighth grade recognition ceremony or dance are encouraged to call the school at 464-5800.

May 8th, Spike-a-Thon at Deer Park Middle School |
On Friday, May 8th Deer Park Middle School will have Spike-a-Thon 2009. This day, which actually revives an old tradition, is full of sports and physical fitness activities. All students and staff will participate, taking part in celebrating this year's school-wide goal of promoting healthy living.
In the morning, festivities get underway with attendance and an inspirational movie, related to sports. Then everyone assembles for the Spike-a-Thon run/ walk. Students signed up to run will cover a 5K course from DPMS in a loop on sidewalks to Main and around to Arcadia, with staff and volunteer observers along the way. The city of Deer Park has given DPMS their support of this activity and the fire department will be along the route. Community members along the course are invited to cheer the runners/walkers and some music groups will play along the way. Walkers will cut off on a shortened course of about 1.8 miles.
After a barbecue picnic lunch outside, students will spend the afternoon rotating through indoor and outdoor activites, including tennis, soccer, 3 on 3 basketball, dance, martial arts, cheer, volleyball, frisbee golf, gymnastics and horseshoes. Near the end of the day at an awards assembly, running champions will receive their prizes.
