While DPMS stands for Deer Park Middle School, it also stands for "Determination Perseverance Means Success". The DPMS Card is awarded to students during each of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters to recognize and encourage academic achievement, attendance, punctuality, and student conduct. To have been eligible to receive the DPMS Card, students must have less than five absences, no more than five tardies, no missing assignments and no F’s, and have no discipline referrals to the administration.
The DPMS Card program is in it's 3rd year and we feel more students will receive their DPMS Cards each quarter once they realize the value in having good grades, good attendance, good conduct and turning in their assignments. The biggest reason why students are not eligible to receive the DPMS Card is because of missing assignments. We as a staff need to find ways to help our students understand the importance of finishing and turning in their assignments. Parents can and should help us encourage their son or daughter to turn in their assignments and do their homework.
Along with receiving the DPMS Card with special discounts and free items located on the back of the card from businesses in Deer Park, Loon Lake and North Spokane, each quarter several times a month the students who bring their DPMS Cards to school on a special designated day can participate in "DPMS Card Celebrations" and "DPMS Card Surprises". Principal Brent Seedall commented "The DPMS Card Celebrations are the high-light of this student incentive program because students will be able to get out of class, not have to make up their assignments, and will receive an ice cream sundae, root beer float or some other special treat". The DPMS Card Surprises are also popular—students bring their DPMS Cards on a special designated Friday, show their DPMS Cards at lunch time, and receive some type of special surprise treat.
Principal Seedall and the staff at Deer Park Middle School would like to thank the following businesses in Deer Park, Loon Lake and North Spokane for supporting the DPMS Card student incentive program during the 2009-2010 school year: Classic Café, Deer Park Bowl, Express Way (Exxon), Subway, Pizza Factory, Westside Pizza, Rosauers, Yokes, McDonald’s, Loon Lake Video and Pizza, Pattison’s Roller Rink, Pizza Hut, Quiznos, Taco Time and Wonderland Golf & Games.
