Congratulations to Deer Park High School science teacher Scott Carlson for receiving a regional “Teacher of the Month” honor from Eastern Washington University and KHQ-TV. KHQ news anchor Stephanie Vigil recently made the trip to DPHS to present the award to Mr. Carlson in an all-school assembly. Video of the event is available at the following link – http://www.khq.com/category/80113/teacher-of-the-month.

The EWU/KHQ Teacher of the Month program is simple in design:  students write letters telling why a particular teacher is outstanding and deserving of the award. This simplicity is also what makes the award such an honor – it’s the kids that interact with teachers on a daily basis who nominate deserving teachers, sharing why the teacher has made a difference in their life. Nicholas Rollins, a sophomore at DPHS, wrote a wonderful letter nominating Mr. Carlson for being a kind, caring teacher who has high expectations for his students.

Mr. Carlson has been a science teacher at Deer Park High School for 25 years and has made a difference in the lives of many, many students. He is respected by all and continues to do great things at DPHS. Thanks to Nick Rollins for taking the time to write a wonderful letter nominating Mr. Carlson – we agree that he is incredibly deserving! Way to go Mr. Carlson!!
