After a thorough search that yielded a deep pool of qualified candidates, Deer Park School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. Lori Burke as the new principal of Arcadia Elementary. Mrs. Burke, who will join Arcadia Elementary beginning in the 2018-19 school year, comes to Deer Park Schools from East Valley School District where she has served as an elementary Asst. Principal and Dean of Students for the past four years. Mrs. Burke has been with East Valley for over 20 years. Prior to her experience in East Valley, she worked for Peninsula School District (Gig Harbor, WA) and Mukilteo School District (Everett, WA).

Mrs. Burke stood out to the committee as an energetic, passionate, and highly-regarded educator who has dedicated herself to student success. Her transition from years working in Special Education (Speech and Language Pathology) to school leadership is based on a communicated desire “…to foster collaborative practices, empowering educators to make a difference, coordinating with community members and leading staff through a trauma-sensitive lens to build a positive environment for students to learn.” Mrs. Burke’s approach to her work and her philosophical approaches align well with what Arcadia and Deer Park School District are about and what we believe is necessary for continued growth and improvement.

A leader in East Valley School District shared the following: “Lori has an innate ability to listen and relate to others, hear their story and react with compassion and empathy. She is a champion of children taking the time to know each one and treat each as an individual….she has made a difference in our school district and Deer Park is lucky to have her.” A current colleague said, “Lori is truly a bridge builder, using listening skills, humor, and genuine care to foster problem solving and agreement. Her caring heart and sense of humor will fill your halls with warmth that will be felt the moment you walk into the building. But more than that, she knows how to motivate her colleagues as well as kids. She is one of the hardest working, most enthusiastic, and capable educators I have known in my 37 years of education.” We can’t wait for the Deer Park community to meet Mrs. Burke and we’re excited about the addition of this fantastic person and educator to our leadership team.

Mrs. Burke replaces Arcadia Elementary Principal Michele Miller, who is retiring from Deer Park Schools after a stellar career in education; Mrs. Miller has capably and enthusiastically served the community and provided leadership for Deer Park’s K-5 staff and students for over 20 years. We are so excited for her to enjoy the road ahead, doing what she loves with family and friends!
