Each year the Northeast Music Educators’ Association selects an “Outstanding Choral Music Educator” from area schools. The Northeast Region consists of all public and private schools in the Great Northern, Northeast, Bi-County, Panorama, Spokane Valley schools, as well as schools north to the Canadian border. The 2017 Outstanding Choral Music Educator Award winner is Deer Park’s own Christina Thomas! Christina is in her 3rd year here teaching Choral Music at Deer Park High School and Deer Park Middle School and has done amazing things in such a short time. Congratulations Mrs. Thomas!

It has been a banner year for Deer Park’s music programs and music educators; earlier this spring, Deer Park’s Band Director, Taylor Belote was chosen by the Spokane Symphony to be the recipient of the 2016-17 Outstanding Music Educator for the Spokane region! The music programs that Mrs. Thomas and Mr. Belote direct do an amazing job representing our schools and community and they make a difference in the lives of kids. In a time when the arts and music have been brushed aside in many school systems around the nation, we are extremely proud to have flourishing music programs thanks to these incredible teachers!

I just want to take a minute to congratulate Mrs. Thomas and offer a BIG Thank You. You have been such a positive influence in my daughter’s life. She has learned so much the past 3 years that you have been a part of the choir program. She has come home very excited with each piece of music and has flourished with your knowledge and encouragement. She is looking forward to being part of the Eastern WA University Eagles Choir next year. Go Eags!!!

Congratulations, Christina! I so appreciate all you did for Lizzy when she was on choir with you and all the effort you put in to help the choir succeed and have fun while doing it. I am so happy I had the opportunity to work with you, other dedicated parents and students during last year’s fundraising efforts. Keep up the good work! Your students are lucky and privileged to have you.
