As you are aware, many school districts throughout the state were forced to cancel school for a number of days in November due to significant damage caused by the wind storm. Here in Deer Park, we missed two days of school as a result of the storm. With that in mind, we’ve modified the 2015-16 calendar.
Deer Park’s 2015-16 school calendar has one built in make-up day, Friday, May 27th – we WILL use this make-up day as a school day this year. Having school on May 27th will take care of one of the two days missed due to the wind storm. Given that Governor Inslee declared the wind storm a “state emergency,” we are able to use a state-provided waiver to account for the second of the two missed school days. That said, it’s important to recognize that in order to make-up any days missed between now and the end of the year, we will need to extend the school year. So, we are encouraging families to avoid making any concrete plans on the 16th or 17th of June, just in case we miss any school days between now and the end of the year and need to make up the time (we still have at least another 6 weeks of winter conditions!).
