It is with a heavy heart that I share we are closing our schools tomorrow, Monday, March 16th. Given the arrival of COVID-19 in our region and the large number of vulnerable employees we have in working throughout our system, the risks associated with a regular school day far outweighed the benefits. We understand the impact this has on families, but given the circumstances, we felt it necessary to move forward with an abundance of caution.
District staff will be working tomorrow and our food service dept. plans to fix “grab and go” lunches for distribution in every building. These lunches will be available for pick up from 10:00am to 1:00pm at each school and will be free to all. Preschool families can get lunches from either Deer Park Elementary or Arcadia Elementary. If your child has personal belongings or medication that need to be picked up from school, you can stop by the school office at anytime between 8:00am and 3:30pm.
As staff meet throughout the district tomorrow, we’ll be building our long-term plan for food distribution, plans for getting educational materials and enrichment activities in the hands of kids, and we’ll also be building our plan for offering childcare to the children of first responders and medical practitioners. Stay tuned for more details on these items.
Folks, we remain committed to keeping you updated with helpful information in the days to come and will work hard to answer your questions to the best of our ability and using every resource we have amidst this rapidly developing situation. We’ll continue to post information on the district website and will continue to use these voice messages to share the latest information.
