Adopted Materials
Annually, staff in DPSD engage in comprehensive updates of instructional materials in a selected content area (or areas). We make every effort to align our local review and adoption schedule to follow OSPI’s curriculum and standards review timelines. That is, as the State reviews standards and materials, we follow-up that work with our own review. It is important to note, however, that Washington is not a state-mandated instructional materials adoption state; the cycle by which the state reviews materials is largely dependent on the availability of state resources.

What f0llows is a list of Board adopted instructional materials for use as core instructional materials in DPSD. Beyond materials used for core instruction, the District’s board procedure states that building principals will have responsibility for working with teachers in their building to ensure that supplemental materials (those materials used to supplement core instructional material) have been examined, reviewed, and approved. Staff will rely on reason and professional judgment in the selection of high-quality supplemental materials that align with the State’s learning standards and are appropriate for the instructional program, developmental level, and interests of their students. Supplemental materials do not require IMC approval, yet due consideration should be given to text complexity, developmental level of students, appropriateness of language or images, bias against racial, gender, ethnic, or other social groups, and other areas in need of sensitivity.
