Representatives from Spokane Teachers Credit Union, KREM2’s Laura Papetti, and Deer Park School District staff came together at Deer Park High School on Thursday, December 14th to present DPHS senior, Malia Fay, with a “Credit 2 Kids” award sponsored by STCU! The group surprised Malia with the award and a live appearance on the KREM2 morning news as she was working to coordinate Deer Park High School’s annual blood drive. Award recipients receive a $500 check given to their school; one grand prize winner (of the six winners chosen this school year) will receive $5,000 to present to their school in their name.
Throughout her four years at DPHS, Malia has been a great student and an inspiration to all. In addition to being involved in school leadership and serving in the Key Club at Deer Park High School, she has also traveled abroad during school breaks to care for children living in orphanages and serving those living in poverty. Malia was nominated for the Credit 2 Kids award by one of her teachers, Mrs. Brittany Schupman.
When interviewed by KREM 2, Mrs. Schupman said, “Malia is an excellent student and an incredible person who is kind, humble, and service-oriented. She inspires others around her and she is a bright light at Deer Park High School.” Check out KREM2’s coverage using by clicking the following link: KREM2 and STCU Honor Deer Park High School Senior Malia Fay.
Credit 2 Kids is a program between STCU and KREM 2 to highlight students doing good work in our community.
Throughout the year, KREM and STCU give away $500 prizes to students and student organizations who give back. Then, at the end of the school year, they present a $5,000 grand prize to one of the most deserving winners.
Previous Credit 2 Kids winners all share a common bond of dedication to their school and community. Credit 2 Kids past winners often have a wealth of volunteer experience, school leadership, and exert a positive influence over their fellow students.
