Important Notice: Change in Athletic Classification

Dear Deer Park Families,

I hope this message finds you well. We wanted to inform you about an important change in our school's athletic classification that will impact our sports programs for the upcoming academic year.

After being classified as a 1A school for several years, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) has made the decision to reclassify us as a 2A school based on their recent calculations (https://www.wiaa.com/classifications/). Despite our principal, Joe Feist, and athletic director, Cameron Gilbert, appealing the initial decision, we unfortunately lost the appeal.

Starting next fall, this reclassification will result in our school moving from the Northeast League to the Greater Spokane Inc (GSI) league. The new league will include schools such as East Valley, West Valley, Pullman, Clarkston, Rogers and North Central (in football only).

We understand that changes like these can raise questions and concerns. Rest assured we are actively working to ensure a smooth transition for our athletes and sports programs. Our coaching staff is dedicated to preparing our teams for the challenges and opportunities that come with competing in the Greater Spokane Inc league.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this transition period. If you have any specific questions or would like more information about how this change may impact your student-athlete, please feel free to reach out to our athletic department.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school's athletic programs.

Go Stags!
