Principal's Message

It is with a very heavy heart that I want to inform you of something our DPMS Ohana (family) is dealing with.  The following announcement was read by teachers this morning to students in their 1st period classes:

DPMS Ohana - Some of you may know that Mr. Brown has been battling cancer for the last few years.  He has been so strong and positive in his fight, that most would never have guessed that he was ill.  Recently, Mr. Brown's battle has taken a turn for the worse.  As a result, we wanted  you to know that he will not be back at school this year and his doctors have given him about 6 weeks of life left to live. If you would like to make a card to let Mr. Brown know how much you appreciate him and miss him that would be wonderful.  You can drop it off at the office, or with Mrs. Weil, and we will get it to him.

Mr. Brown has been with the district as a sub and High School football coach for about 5 years.  The last two years he has been our Behavior Intervention and Weight Training teacher and has built wonderful positive relationships with many students.  This news hit many students, especially in 7th and 8th grade quite hard today.  Students are being supported by our entire staff, including our two counselors.  Students who need support and someone to talk to are allowed to go to the library and work through this difficult situation together...as a family.

I wanted to make you aware so you too could be prepared to support your child at home this evening and in the coming days.

There are no words to express or make sense of this tragic situation.

Our love, support and prayers are with Mr. Brown, his wife and their family.

Laulima - Locking hands together...
