Earlier this month, our FFA students competed in the annual Spokane Junior Livestock Show. It was a fantastic success with many students placing in both fitting and showmanship. Some major highlights for Deer Park included earning Reserve Grand Champion in Freshman/Sophomore Fitting and Showing, Reserve Grand Champion in Prospect Lambs, and Reserve Grand Champion in Carcass Swine. Additionally, our State Livestock Judging team put in an incredible performance, placing 10th overall against a competitive field of 48 other teams. What an awesome experience for these hard-working students!

Our kindergarten classrooms have been full of excitement lately. Students have been studying the development and life cycle of chickens, and this week, the lesson came to life as 6 baby chicks successfully hatched.
This hands-on experience provides a great front-row seat to the wonders of biology. How cool is it that our students get to witness this firsthand?!

Recently, our dedicated math teachers spent a day focused on professional learning. They explored strategies for designing engaging, high-impact lessons that support all learners. Today, that work continues as teachers dive into using common assessments to better inform interventions and strengthen the PLC (Professional Learning Community) process, ensuring every student receives the support they need to succeed.

The Deer Park School District's Strategic Plan is to prioritize a sense of safety, value, respect, and belonging. We are thrilled to see these goals turning into results in our school climates!
Over a 5-month period this year, we are making great progress compared to the same time last year.
Middle School:
• 65% Decrease in Behavior Referrals
Arcadia:
• 12.5% Decrease in Behavior Referrals
Elementary:
• 406 fewer requests for student support
These improvements are a direct reflection of a proactive system of support and a positive school climate where our students feel connected, safe, and ready to learn.

We are so excited to share what an amazing experience our Deer Park archers had at Nationals!
First off, huge shoutout to our three individual qualifiers who made it to Nationals after placing top 10 at State in March (no small feat!):
• Weston Honshiko (DPHS)
• Journey Johnson (DPMS)
• Kael Morris (Homelink)
On top of that, we brought a full team from Deer Park High School, AND for the first time ever, Deer Park Middle School sent a team too… how cool is that?! Our teams competed in 3D, while our individual archers took on both 3D and bullseye, and all of our archers jumped into the Centershot tournament in both disciplines. Talk about a full and fun week of shooting!
Beyond the competition, this trip to Sandy, Utah, was all about making memories and bonding as teams, connecting with families, and just soaking in the experience of Nationals together. We are incredibly proud, grateful, and already counting down to next season. Thank you to our amazing community for your support, for passing our levy that funded these opportunities, and for cheering on our archers!

This week at Deer Park Arcadia Elementary, Mrs. Jones, a retired art teacher and volunteer, visited Mrs. Durgin's class to share a lesson on René Magritte. His iconic works, The False Mirror (1928) and The Son of Man (1964), explore the intriguing contrast between what is visible and what may be concealed. Enjoy our class’s creative interpretations inspired by these surrealist masterpieces!

Deer Park High School senior, Austin Cohrs, represented us at the All-State Solo and Ensemble competitions this past weekend. Austin was among 21 of the top alto saxophone soloists in the state and earned a superior (top score) rating from all three of his judges.
He plans to continue his musical pursuits at Whitworth University next year on alto saxophone and French horn.
Congratulations, Austin, on your superior performance at state!
