DPMS - Week of 2/26 and Beyond... Good evening DPMS families. I hope you are well and enjoying the dangerously spring-like weather. Just a few items for next week and beyond... - Starting Monday, all of our DPMS students will be taking the iReady math and LA benchmark testing. PLEASE make sure your student charges their Chromebook for Monday morning! The iReady tests, given only twice a year in the fall and late winter, are used to measure learning growth and also very important for proper class placement next year. - Monday also represents another "Manic Monday" for DPMS. On Manic Monday's from 2:00 - 3:00, students who have D/F grades or possibly important missing class work are given the opportunity in a study hall, with their teacher, to complete or improve them. Students who are taking care of their academic business successfully have a host of engaging activity options to choose from. PLEASE do NOT pull your student out of school early on Monday's, especially if they have been assigned study hall. This time can be highly productive for students to get what they need academically. - Wednesday, February 28th is an ONE HOUR LATE START. Thank you for your time and enjoy the weekend! Principal Deer Park Middle School Go Spikes! IMUA!

Early election results show that our Educational Programs and Operations Levy is likely passing, but our Capital Projects Bond might not reach enough votes needed for approval. Levies require 50%+1 voter approval and Bonds need 60% voter approval to pass. We are grateful to our voters and community. While we had hoped to see both measures pass, we know that this is a challenging time for school funding. Special thanks to the Committee to Support Deer Park Schools and their hard work and efforts with communication. The Facilities Advisory Committee and staff will be working on the next steps, and we will share information and updates as soon as they are available. For more information about our levy replacement and bond and what they fund, please see https://www.dpsd.org/page/bond-levy-information.

Make sure your voice is heard! Ballots for the February 13 election are due today. What's on the ballot for Deer Park students? Prop. 1, an EP&O levy renewal that continues funding for staff, clubs, athletics, and smaller class sizes. Prop. 2, a replacement Capital Bond, to address our growing district. The bond would fund a new elementary school to ensure all students have access to safe, modern learning spaces. Learn more at https://www.dpsd.org/page/bond-levy-information.

February 13 measures support Deer Park students. Here are some fast facts: - The EP&O levy is not a new tax, it replaces an expiring levy previously approved by our community and continues funding for staff (nurses, student resource officers, teachers), and extracurriculars (clubs and sports). - The state does not provide any funding for building construction or maintenance. To address our growing district, we're asking the community to consider Prop. 2 to replace the current bond. - The funding raised through Prop. 1 and Prop. 2 will stay in our community - which directly supports Deer Park Students! What does Prop. 2, the Replacement Capital Bond, fund for our schools? Bonds are for building. The Replacement Capital bond will address our growing capacity by ensuring students have the space they need to learn. It would also provide a permanent learning space for the students in our Home Link program. Currently, they are in makeshift rooms housed in the district office. The bond will provide funding to modernize our schools, providing our students with safe and secure learning spaces. Learn more at https://www.dpsd.org/page/bond-levy-information

Home Link Bond
How does Prop. 1., the EP&O levy renewal support our students? Levies are for learning. The EP&O levy continues funding the staff, academic programs, and extracurricular programs that support our students. The levy bridges the gap between what the state funds and what our district needs to provide students with a quality education. Learn the details at https://www.dpsd.org/page/bond-levy-information

Bonds are for building. Levies are for learning. The Feb. 13 EP&O levy renewal and Capital Bond work to support ALL students in the district. Prop. 1, the EP&O renewal Levy: This renews an expiring levy that continues funding for the staff, programs, athletics, and extracurriculars that support our students. Deer Park is growing! Prop. 2: Replacement Capital Bond, which would provide funds to address our highest facilities needs and our growing enrollment by funding a new elementary school (eliminate portables), new transportation center, modernization of Deer Park Middle School, and modernization and customization for Home Link at Arcadia. Deer Park is growing! To address the changing capacity needs of the district, we are asking the community to consider a Capital bond. Prop. 2 on the February 13 ballot would fund a new elementary school to serve grades 2-5, modernize Deer Park Middle School and accommodate Home Link at Arcadia.
